LEGAL BASIS

The BWC was created by virtue of Bangsamoro Autonomy (BAA) Act No. 8, otherwise known as an Act creating Bangsamoro Women Commission which was signed and approved on 13th February 2020.

The BANGSAMORO WOMEN COMMISSION (BWC) shall promote, protect and uphold women’s rights as human rights, work for the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, ensure that legal measures are taken to promote gender justice, women’s rights and welfare, and promote gender and development including the meaningful participation of women in all levels of governance, policy and decision-making.

In furtherance of the above-stated mandate, the Commission shall be the primary policy-making, coordinating and monitoring body of women, gender and development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

The Bangsamoro Women Commission shall be responsible for the development of women and their families by promoting and protecting their socio-economic and political rights, to attain a desired quality of life.
