General Santos City – BWC-BARMM Organizational Development and Management Training from April 30-May 4, 2019 at Green Leaf Hotel, initiated by BTA Member Hadja Bainon Karon purposely to strengthen the women’s commission of the BARMM in order that it can more effectively and efficiently respond to the emerging issues and current realities of women.

Following the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), a new political entity was created, The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

As provided for under Article XVI Section 10. Transfer of Powers and Properties and Disposition of Personnel of the BOL, all powers, functions, assets, capital, records, funds, receivables, equipments, and facilities of the Autonomous Regional Governmen in Muslim Mindanao at the time of ratification of this Organic Law shall be transferred to the Bangsamoro Government except those properties, land, and structures which are located outside of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and subject to the condition as provided in Paragraph (d), Section 4 of this Article.

Among the powers and functions contemplated under this provision is the protection of women from violence and promotion of their fundamental rights. This function is vested in the office of the Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC). Sustaining the efforts and services provided by the BWC is imperative. In post-conflict setting like BARMM, women should be on board participating in conflict transformation and peace building, considering their lived experience of conflict. Their participation in governance will provide a gender perspective which in the experience of other countries, result to higher chance of peace agreements being fully implemented.

Given the new configuration of the region, the emerging issues and prevailing context, it is necessary to prepare the BWC for its more expansive mandates. Thus, an Organizational Development and Management Training are being proposed.

The overall objective is that at the end of the training, the participants will be able to identify and understand the importance of one’s role in achieving organizational goals and realize how one’s attitude makes or breaks performance.

Specific objectives are as follows:

To increase the level of trust and support among staff;

  1. To create an enabling environment that will facilitate smooth, effective and efficient working relationship between and among officials of BWC and its staff;
  2. To create an environment in which designation of assigned roles is augmented based on knowledge and skills;
  3. To increase the openness of communication laterally, vertically and diagonally;
  4. To increase the level of self and group responsibility in planning and implementation.
